Your doctor will work with you to decide which modality(s) is best suited for your treatment. Typically, several naturopathic modalities are employed to create a unique synergy best suited for you. This is one of the key concepts of successful care at the VCNH.  The naturopathic physicians of VCNH offer the following therapies:

Botanical Medicine
Many of today’s synthetic pharmaceutical drugs on the market today originated from plants. Plants have incredible healing benefits that are found in the form of tinctures, teas and salves. Used correctly, considering all possible interactions with medications and supplements, botanicals may be used for the treatment of almost any condition.

Founded in the late 18th Century by German Physician Samuel Hahnemann. Homeopathy stimulates the individual’s internal healing process with minute dilutions of natural substances derived from plants, minerals and animals. Based on the principle of “like cures like”, these remedies specifically match the different patterns of illness on the physical, mental and emotional state of the patient.

Traditional Chinese Medicine (with Acupuncture)
A 5000 year old medical system, based on the belief that health is determined by the balanced flow of vital energy (qi) through the meridians within the body. Assessment of the pulses, tongue and other physical exams lead to a diagnosis of the state of harmony of the organs and vital systems of the body. Imbalances are treated using herbs, acupuncture and dietary modification.

Nutritional Medicine
Food as medicine is the key underlying principle in natural health treatment.
Since most fresh foods today are grown in nutrient depleted soils, research shows that we are depleted in nutrients, as well. Simple changes to the diet can have a major impact on the treatment and prevention of chronic disease. A healthy diet is fundamental to any health and wellness treatment plan. Single and combination vitamins and minerals are used to treat specific conditions.

“Let food be your medicine and let medicine be your food” – Hippocrates

An effective treatment using water to treat conditions, ranging from flu and stress to muscle aches and arthritis.

Physical Medicine
Naturopathic Physicians, as well as chiropractors, are licensed to use spinal manipulations (adjustments) within their scope of practice. Stress, poor posture, poor nutrition, injury and pain will affect the musculoskeletal system, leading to imbalances of the nervous system, and the rest of the body and its organs. Soft tissue and general structural manipulation are aimed to address subluxations or joint disturbances that result in misalignment of the spine or extremity.

Frequency Specific Microcurrent (FSM)
Frequency Specific Microcurrent is an exciting new way of treating many conditions using specific frequencies and micro amperage current, especially for nerve and muscle pain. There are hundreds of practitioners in the US, Australia and Canada using FSM to create miraculous changes in patients to reduce pain and improve health. At times, FSM produces immediate dramatic changes in tissue that make it an indispensable tool in treating pain and many other health concerns, such as detoxification and improving the functionality of specific organs and tissues.

Intravenous Nutrient Therapies
Intravenous and injection of naturopathic medicaments is a safe and effective way to enhance their therapeutic response. Giving substances this way allows direct access to the bloodstream, particularly necessary for individuals whose absorptive ability of the gastrointestinal tract is limited or impaired. I.V. therapy enables one to deliver higher concentrations of medicines, which otherwise may not be able to be achieved by oral means. Many conditions are treated this way: infectious diseases (i.e. mononucleosis, influenza, herpes), asthma, migraine headaches, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, cardiovascular disease, acute and chronic gastrointestinal illnesses, cancer, anxiety, depression, neurological conditions, toxicity, vitamin-mineral deficiencies to name a few. The formulations consist of homeopathics, botanicals, amino acids, vitamins, minerals or trace-elements.

Neural Therapy
Neural Therapy originated in Germany in the 1940’s and is a gentle way to treat chronic pain and illness. It is based on the theory that dysfunction of the involuntary (autonomic) nervous system can lead to circulatory, lymphatic, electrical, hormonal and biochemical changes in tissues and organs. A neural therapy injection can often instantly and lastingly remove long-standing illness and pain by “resetting” the tissue and eliminating the dysfunction or “intereference field”. Many conditions benefit from neural therapy such as headaches, tinnitus, sinusitis, whiplash, liver and gallbladder disease, joint and nerve pain, asthma, gynecological illness and thyroid disease.

Prolotherapy originated in the 1940’s and is proven to be a very effective technique for treating laxity and chronic pain around the joints, tendons, bursae and ligaments of the neck, back or extremities. Prolotherapy is an excellent alternative to the temporary effects of corticosteroid (Cortisone) injections or surgery. A variety of musculoskeletal conditions are treatable by prolotherapy, including but not limited to: whiplash injuries, sporting injuries, rotator cuff shoulder injuries, tennis elbow, knee and hip problems, ankle sprains, TMJ or jaw dysfunction, chronic low back pain and “sciatica”.

Chelation Therapy

Chelation Therapy is the process involving the use of chelating agents to detoxify the body of heavy metals. A host of chelating agents are available such as EDTA, DMPS, DMSA, sodium alginate, cilantro, chlorella, some amino acids and high dose vitamin C. Heavy metals, such as lead, mercury, arsenic, aluminum, cadmium accumulate within the body, commonly, within blood vessels, which lead to the formation of plaques within these vessels. As a result, conditions known as arteriosclerosis or atheroscerlosis occur. Since the removal of heavy metals will improve cardiovascular health, it is far safer and much less expensive than surgical treatment from atherosclerosis. Chelation Therapy may eliminate the need for bypass surgery and is equally valid when used as a preventative treatment. This therapy has been well documented to help the following: arterio/atherosclerosis, other cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, cancer, Alzheimer’s, memory loss or Multiple Sclerosis.

Registered Massage Therapy
Massage Therapy is the oldest healing scientific art in the world.  Records documenting its use take us back over 3000 years to ancient cultures such as the Chinese, Eastern Indians, Egyptians and Persians.  Massage Therapy effects both the superficial and deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue by using various techniques of applying pressure to aid in the healing process, enhance function and promote relaxation and well-being.  It is proven to positively affect the muscular, nervous and circulatory systems to rehabilitate physical injuries and improve health.  Massage Therapy can make a positive difference at any stage in one’s life – whether seeking to improve health and well being or to simply maintain it.  The VCNH services include massage therapy with a Registered Massage Therapist (RMT), coverage by most, if not all, extended health plans.
